The results of the test for the Natural Sound Speaker System have been released, comparing it to world-renowned speakers.

Figures a to f show data from a comparative listening test of famous speakers from around the world. The vertical axis represents the psychological scale and the horizontal axis represents the speakers being tested. The test was conducted using purely psychological methods, including a blind test, to eliminate the effects of acoustics and location.

As can be seen from the graphs, the Natural Sound Speaker System has succeeded in expressing sounds that are beloved by humans. Figure f shows the results of a multidimensional quantification method, which displays the listener's (marked with an X) preferences in two dimensions with no specific meanings on the axes. The results show that, except for a few "special individuals" among listeners 2 and 3, there is a consistent trend in their preferences.

Thanks to advances in statistical psychology in recent years, it is now possible to calculate such comparative listening results.

Characteristics of Natural Sound Speakers

Feature 1

The first characteristic is the amazing spread of sound. Due to the wide surface area of the diaphragm, when playing stereo sound, the speaker's spread is not limited to just two "point sound sources" and instead reaches the entire space, creating a very expansive sound.

Feature 2

As a multiple-resonance system unit, the high tones vibrate and divide into numerous areas, making it possible to say that, from a macroscopic perspective, the directionality is independent of frequency. In other words, this is an "omnidirectional" speaker.

Feature 3

There is no need for a specially designed enclosure. It is sufficient to use a cabinet that is open at the back. The speaker adopts a thin enclosure that contains no air inside.

Feature 4

You can enjoy music that is full of realism, with linear sound quality from pianissimo to fortissimo. This is achieved through the use of a large diaphragm and a highly anisotropic, powerful magnet circuit in the drive unit.

Feature 5

The durability and weather resistance are also superb. Since the diaphragm is fixed with an iron frame around the perimeter, it has excellent durability, unlike the "free edge or high-compliance dampers" of general speakers. Also, the diaphragm is made of plastic, so it is not affected by humidity.

Feature 6

The unit that vibrates based on the same operating principle as a piano or violin is installed in this speaker. This produces a very natural sound, and of course, you can also enjoy rich bass at the same time. As a special unit of a multiple-resonance system, the acoustic exchange efficiency is excellent, equivalent to that of a general high-efficiency 38cm woofer.

Feature 7

By utilizing Yamaha's proprietary highly anisotropic and high-performance magnets in large quantities, this speaker achieves good linearity and high efficiency without distortion.
